Love Actually (US)

Now this is a film that has turned into a legend and a film that simply must be seen for Christmas to arrive into lots of homes. I must admit that I am not a very big fan of this film personally, but due to pressure from society I have still allowed Love Actually to be a part of my list of the best Christmas films on Netflix, simply because it is extremely popular, it has to do with Christmas and it has to do with love.

And even more, Love Actually is full of famous people, so in the film you can see Hugh Grant, Liam Neeson, Colin Firth, Keira Knightley and Bill Nighy. Do not miss out on this one. Christmas with the Kranks

This is for sure a film that belongs to Christmas, because for the other 11 months of the year this is a film I would never watch. But, as Christmas approaches or is upon us this is a film about the couple who decides to cancel Christmas and go on a holiday instead. That may sound like a nice decision, but they live in a neighborhood in which Christmas is the highlight of the year and were they do all things together and all house are illuminated, except from this year, because the Kranks have decided to travel. They turn very unpopular because of this, but then something changes which makes things even more complicated.

For sure not the best film in itself, but because of Christmas this is a film that you might find amusing.

On Netflix: The film can be seen on US Netflix.

A Christmas Carol (2009) – Netherlands

A Christmas Carol is one of many films made based on the book written by Charles Dickens. In this film we meet Scrooge, a monster in himself who do not know how to smile and who hates everything about Christmas. But, this year he is haunted by the spirit of Christmas and his life turns around. But, can Scrooge change so much that he in fact understands what Christmas is about and change his life for this purpose? In the main role as Scrooge in this film you can watch Jim Carrey, and this is probably a film suitable before Christmas if you want to watch film teenagers. But, this film is probably a bit to scary if you plan on watching it with children under 10 years.

On Netflix: A Christmas Carol can be seen on Dutch Netflix.

Four Christmases (2008) – Netherlands

Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn plays the couple who can not stand their families, and that is why they always travel away for Christmas. They make up some grand excuse and then they head of to warmer areas. But, this year everything turns upside down. First all flights are cancelled making it impossible to leave, and then they are broadcasted on live TV as angry people who can not go on their planned holiday.

Of course their families see the live broadcast and immediately calls them to have them come visit. This is how the couple needs to visit their families and that is how the Four Christmases turn into a reality.

A quite nice film with Christmas as part of the topic all the time.

Home Alone 1 and 2 – UK Netflix

Home Alone 1 and 2 has turned into legendary films and in lots of nations they broadcast Home Alone on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, simply because they know that people love to watch these films for Christmas. I even read about a nation in which the main channel did not show these films during Christmas and it led to giant protests from the people, so the next year the TV channel repented and showed the Home Alone films again.

In the Home Alone films Kevin is left behind while the family travels on and he has to protect his house and himself from some really evil thieves. His way of protecting himself would make even Macgyver envious, but it is really fun to watch the films and I remember as I watched these films for the first time they really gave me some great laughters.

On Netflix: The Home Alone films can be seen on UK Netflix.
